Bahrain Free Trade Agreement (BFTA)
EFFECTIVE 8/1/06
The BFTA allows for preferential duty treatment of many products made in Bahrain. There are of course conditions that must be met in order to receive the benefits of this program. It is strongly recommended, as with all preferential claims, that you obtain a certificate of origin for the goods when making a BFTA claim.
GSP & ATPDEA Expiration
Both the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) and Andean Trade Promotion and Drug Eradication Act (ATPDEA) are due to expire on 12/31/06. It is expected that both of these programs will be renewed, with some changes having being made. In the event that these programs are not renewed prior to expiration, the appropriate duties will be due to U.S. Customs. It is also expected, that if these programs are not renewed until a later date, then the renewal will be retroactive to the 12/31 expiration date.
Special Duty Programs
These programs play a large part in the dutiable status of cargo shipped between the reciprocating countries. New programs are being introduced more often then ever before, and amendments to existing programs are also occurring frequently. Please be sure to check our website often, to learn about new programs and changes that may affect the dutiable status of your cargo.
